Meta Knight is a badass idiot

(May contain spoilers. You've been warned.)
You right now, when you saw I will be writing about Meta Knight. I know you're all fangirling/boying on him. I can see it through your screen.
(That title is too subtle for the Internet---)

Hey there, my name's AMB and I felt like beginning with Kirby stuff. Since that, indeed, I LOVE KIRBY. I've played nearly all the games (except Adventure, since I finished its remake a while ago, and Rainbow Curse, since I don't have a Wii U).

And Meta Knight is quite a great character, one of my favourites actually.
Because seriously, WHO doesn't like Meta Knight? people from the CoroCoro manga excluded

Yes, you need to hate Meta Knight to make this. And yes, this CoroCoro thing is official... don't ask.

Buuuuuut, I also felt like breaking your fangirl/boy dreams on him (if the picture up didn't already). Just because.

You're thinking MK is too badass for these series? Or that he's too OP for you? Let me explain how you can question your shelf.

 Meta Knight is a prick

Let's introduce him a bit: he's a knight (yup), who first appeared as a random boss in Adventure, who then wanted to invade Dreamland in Super Star (&Ultra), disappeared during the Dark Matter trilogy, and finally decided to help save the world starting from Amazing Mirror after becoming a playable character from Nightmare in Dreamland. How? Why? We don't know. As we don't know who he is and what's his relationship with Kirby since they both look like eachothers.

(Still I don't support the idea of them being of the same specie. BECAUSE MK'S GOT ARMS. AND MODE DEVELOPED HANDS. And sew Palutena's shelfing remarks about if MK can inhale stuff like Kirby does. They're as stupid as Katanagatari's final.)

But on the overall, not only his past is unclear: his true motivations aren't either. This permanent shift between friend and foe from game to game makes his personality quite questionable. Is he trying to change his mind? Did he realize Kirby was too strong for him and decided to help him out? Or is he hiding something like some sort of evil plan for later?
And of course, the OTHER solution: not appearing in the game at all!
If you want to know my opinion on this, I made quite a simple conclusion: in fact, Meta Knight just goes to one side or another wherever he feels he can get something out of the current situation. And especially to show how badass he is.What a jerk.

But he's especially quite friendly in the animated adaptation. Well, "friendly", he stills says the people from Pupupuvillage are a bunch of biscuits and loves trolling Fumu when entering his Wikipedia mode ; but well it's not as evil as trying to invade Dreamland because its inhabitants are lazy shelves.

Stop complaning about Dedede. THIS is the real Knightmare in Dreamland!

Yup, pretty much.
Nevertheless, he's on the "good" side by helping Kirby like a protective mother and reporting on Dedede's random evilish activities after spying on the king's discussions with our fellow Customjerk Service.
By the way, I'd say the anime can also be the birthplace of his chivalry behaviour and maneers. Apart the fact he constantly gives Kirby a sword in order to properly put up a fight (Squeak Squad excluded for.... no good reason... but I'll explain this later), tell me ONE game dialog in which MK actually refers to the chivalry code. GIVE ME ONE. SERIOUSLY.

Ok guys, better idea: ABANDON SHIP.

Adaptations just don't like him

(Because making fun of serious characters is super effective.)

Remember that fabulous Meta Knight I showed earlier? Now it's time for a more painful memory: 4Kids's Kirby Right Back at Ya!
............
...What? Do I need to say more about this?
Ok then I'll get you some more pics from the CoroCoro manga-- I know you love them.

If you are still not convinced, you have issues.

He's not that strong

This is how badass the average people see Meta Knight
This is how I see Meta Knight... sometimes.
Heh, you can raise as many eyebrows as you want, but don't tell me this isn't true. He may be totally OP in Smash Bros, and is more effective than Kirby in his Meta Knightmares but have you really thought about his real abilities?

Let me explain,

Meta Knight is one of the last bosses in the "old" Kirby games (period from Dreamland ~ 64). In every spin off and minigame MK is present, he's quite a tough enemy (especially on Super Star's Samurai Kirby.. UGH THAT LVL3 IS A REAL PAIN LIKE PAINT ROLLER ON AVALANCHE--).
HOWEVER, what about the games' plots and his role in them? As I mentionned before, he doesn't even appear in the Dark Matter trilogy (Dreamland 2, Dreamland 3, 64) or Triple Deluxe ; neither you can fight him in Power Paintbrush/Canvas Curse, Adventure Wii/Return to Dreamland where he's just a playable character among Bandana Waddle Dee and Dedede. In Mass Attack he just appears in subgames.

I seriously was expecting the 10 Kirbies to cling on Meta Knight to beat him up- That'd have been soooo funny XD
Actually the last game where you fully fight Meta Knight is Super Star Ultra. Afterwards he's either a friend, either possessed (Epic Yarn, Planet Robobot)... quite like Dedede. Yup, our badass Meta Knight is treated like our fellow King Dedede. What a shock-
In Mouse Attack and Amazing Mirror, the context is different. As specified in Squeak Squad's plot, Meta Knight wanted to protect Dreamland by preventing Kirby from opening the chest containing Dark Nebula. But considering the threat this guy is, was it really necessary? XD
YES, I really felt like trolling on this one.
And do I  need to mention Amazing Mirror and MK's 3s failed attempt to save the Mirror World before being concealed in the portal and with no apparent struggle?
This perfectly describes his role during the game.

And though Epic Yarn wasn't made by the same guys (GoodFeel), it's still considered canon. And what about it? Well, YinYarn's socks were too strong for Meta Knight to even try fighting back. And don't tell me the badass Meta Knight couldn't tear the sock apart with Galaxia or just use his incredible speed to avoid being sucked. Unless this sock is filled with scenarium.

"TU N'ES PAS A L'AISE DANS TES CHAUSSETTES?" .... that French dub always gets me, sorry-

More recently, on Planet Robobot, Haltmann got him and made him a robot. We don't know when and how but it worked. How could Meta Knight not resist this?

Not to mention the anime (again) where his badassness depends on how much scenarium the plot injects into Kirby to make him beat the majuu/demon beasts more or less easily.
By the way, there something in this anime that I've never understood: in episode 26 (the one with Chilidog/Wolfwrath) Meta Knight is harmed by Chilidog's fang, thrust in his forehead... but how did it get there?...
Don't tell me nobody noticed this in 15 years.

I mean seriously: HOW. Chilidog wasn't biting on him, it was just aiming straight to Meta Knight. Does it have an extra tooth on its tongue or something...?
That just makes his pseudo death even more stupid considering how he easily beat Chilidog in the flash back. (You could just bring it to the bathroom too.)

Conclusion

Meta Knight is sure a mysterious character with a great design, but it seems like Hal is totally lost with him. His strength and motivation are not permanent, among with his role in the games. He tends to become more of an ally like King Dedede while he seems somewhat less important in the plot. Not like he was anyway though. However, on the contrary, King Dedede is easier to understand, but I won't develop that point now. Meta Knight still has a great impression with fans but he looks too overrated considering his real actions in games. Even the subgames where he saves the world don't look too important, after all, its canonicity in games is not completely figurable (is Meta Knightmare happening while Kirby is fighting on the arena? and why does the plot have to reboot when he comes? is this some sort of parallel dimension where MK is the hero?). Making him a playable character sure isn't enough I'd say.

So... voilĂ , I hope this made you rethink your conceptions on this character. I feel somewhat sad now Meta Knight can't get more ways to show how great he is, even as an ally. Smash Bros and Kirby games cutscenes won't be enough in my opinion.

(And I hope this first article format was enjoyable.)
